Christmas And Holiday Season: How To Find Joy

The Ultimate Guide to Finding Joy During the Christmas and Holiday Season

One of the biggest complaints during the Christmas and holiday season is that people are so stressed that they seldom find the joy that this season brings to the world. It is easy enough to fall into the pits of stress, depression, and other issues during the Christmas and holiday season since there is so much that goes with preparing for the holidays. After all, as adults, you are no longer just enjoying whatever else your family does for you…you are a part of the planning, the buying, and the preparing for the events you host during Christmas. Avoiding Stress and Overwhelm During the Holidays

There are several schools of thought on finding joy through stress, depression, and sadness. While we don’t often associate these types of feelings with the Christmas and holiday season, believe it or not, this is a time of year that many people feel lost and alone. So, what can you do?

  1. Take 20 minutes every day to reflect back on the day and what you accomplished. Sometimes, being able to reflect back on the goals that you ended up getting accomplished for the day can give you a little bounce in your step. It can make you feel worthy and can actually bring a smile to your face…even if you have thirty other things on your list that you did not get done.
  2. Talk to someone! If you start to feel down, talk to someone. It does not have to be a professional, it can simply be a friend that you can grab a cup of coffee with and both of you can commiserate together over all that you need to get done in order to complete the list of things you need to do to celebrate the Christmas season.
  3. Remember to take time for yourself. This is one of the main reasons that people lose the joy of the Christmas and holiday season…they do not take the time for themselves, but rather do everything for everyone else, putting themselves last on the list. How can you take some time for yourself? Do whatever it is that relaxes you and make the time to do this at least every few days. This can be your time to recharge your batteries, focus on the good of the season, and have the energy to complete everything else that you need to get done for the holidays.

Remember, feeling depressed or sad, or even stress and anxiety are normal during the holiday season. However, you want to do whatever you can to find the joy that this season brings to your life and enjoy this. Remember, this is just one time of the year that things can get hectic, and it will fly by, so reach out and grab the joy now!
